Colombian Minister of Transportation, Ángela Orozco, to Inaugurate Latam Mobility: Medellín

Invest in Latam, a leading entity for the promotion of public-private cooperation in Latin America, bringing together the most prominent leaders in politics, business, culture and society in general to promote the regional transformation agenda, is pleased to invite you to the Latam Mobility Medellin.

The meeting will address interesting topics related to sustainable mobility and the transition of the automotive sector towards electromobility in Colombian cities.

The event will have the prestigious participation of Ángela María Orozco Gómez, Transportation Minister of Colombia, who will be in charge of opening the activity, which will also be attended by public officials and important companies working for the sustainable mobility development in the country and the region.

It should be noted that, under Orozco’s management, Colombia is one of the leading countries in Latin America in the strengthening of electric mobility with transportation based on clean technologies.

Through legislation and incentives, the country promotes the use of electric cars. Among the benefits are a 10% discount on the Compulsory Traffic Accident Insurance (Soat), the tax rate cannot exceed 1% of the commercial value of the car and a discount on the technical-mechanical inspection. In addition, they will always be exempted from the “pico y placa” plan.

Transmilenio and the decarbonization of Public Transportation and Bus Fleets in Latin America

The management and transition of public transport buses and other fleets in the region will also be discussed at Latam Mobility Medellin. In this section, Alvaro Rengifo, General Manager of Transmilenio, will be one of the speakers presenting his knowledge and experience in this area.

In Bogotá, Transmilenio put 172 new electric buses into operation this year. These are part of 1,002 vehicles of this type that will arrive this year to the city, completing a total of 1,485.

It is worth noting that with the inclusion of these fleets, 1.5 tons of particulate matter will no longer be emitted annually, and the emission of 3,200 tons/year of carbon will be avoided. Once the entire fleet of 1,485 electric buses is operating, 94,300 tons of CO2 will no longer be emitted per year, the equivalent of what 42,000 private cars produce in the same period.

Other topics such as freight infrastructure and the prospects for sustainable mobility in the financial sector will also be part of the schedule of Latam Mobility Medellin, a meeting to be held on June 8 and 9.
